Dr. Vera Araujo Soares

Vera Araújo Soares (https://people.utwente.nl/vera.araujo-soares) is a Professor of Health Psychology and Planetary Health at the BMS Faculty of the University of Twente in the Netherlands, the Past President of the European Health Psychology Society (https://ehps.net/)  and the Regional Vice President of the Psychology Coalition at the United Nations(https://psychologycoalitionun.org/ ). She completed her studies at the University of Minho in Portugal where she worked as an academic and a clinician. In 2006 she moved to Aberdeen as Senior Research Fellow in the Scottish Alliance for Self-Care Research before moving to the University of Newcastle in 2010 and then to the Netherlands in 2020. Her research targets the development and assessment of evidence-based interventions for the promotion of health behaviours, prevention and self-management of chronic conditions. She is passionate about using knowledge developed in her area of research to support the One Health agenda. Her research aims to apply behavioural science to the pursuit of the health of the planet and the health of the population. She has published in leading international journals including the BMJ, Diabetologia, Pain, Health Psychology and Health Psychology Review (https://scholar.google.de/citations?user=bmSwuBkAAAAJ&hl=en). She is passionate about translating theory and empirical evidence into practice and by doing so, exerting impact.
